The Nice Eagles have completed an intense season in the Ligue Magnus. Qualified for the quarterfinals after five years of absence from the playoffs, they were defeated by the Rouen Dragons. A look back at a year marked by many changes.
The Nice Eagles finished the regular season in eighth place with 54 points. This performance allowed them to qualify by the skin of their teeth for the finals, a first in five years. The team fought until the last day to secure their place in the playoffs.
In the quarterfinals, Nice faced the Rouen Dragons, favorites and future champions of the Ligue Magnus. The series ended with four defeats to one victory. Although the gap was clear, the Nice team did not underperform. “We showed that we could compete at times, but we still lack consistency to reach the next level,” said coach Frantisek Stolc.
Reconstruction underway
The off-season was marked by a major overhaul of the team. Nineteen players left, replaced by seventeen newcomers. Among them, the French international goalkeeper Raphaël Garnier was one of the headliners. The club’s goal is clear: rejuvenate the squad and build a competitive team for the next five years.
Nicolas Tomasini, former manager at Grenoble and Chambéry, was appointed general manager. He has the mission to support Frantisek Stolc, who was retained as head coach. With these changes, some key players remained in place, such as Marc-André Lévesque and Luka Kalan, who ensure experience within the group.
The first half of the 2024-2025 season showed a mixed picture. The Eagles had a streak of six consecutive victories, before experiencing more challenging periods.
With a largely renewed team and clear ambitions, the Nice Eagles want to capitalize on the lessons of 2024. The goal remains to qualify again for the playoffs and to continue the progress started this season. Let’s see the results of this work in 2025.
