“Rewards for the ‘Médiaterre Challenges’ of the Unis-Cité Association”

Latest News

The “Médiaterre” civic service challenge has just concluded. It was an opportunity for Unis-Cité Nice to reward, in their Libération premises, the three families that were most energy-efficient.

Ten young “Médiaterre” volunteers from the Unis-Cité association, recruited through word of mouth, thanks to the Local Mission or other associations, have since last October been knocking on the doors of residents in the Moulins, Ariane, and Nice Paillon neighborhoods to raise awareness about eco-responsibility.

They guided them in practicing “eco-gestures,” such as saving tap water, turning off electrical appliances in standby mode, reducing waste, and eating seasonal produce.

These last three weeks, a challenge took place in these neighborhoods. Twenty families had to conserve as much water and electricity as possible over an entire week. Thanks to meter readings, the association was able to rank the most eco-responsible families.

The winners were rewarded this afternoon. The Guez Guez family received the third prize, a solar-powered rechargeable lamp from the project partner, Schneider Electric.

The Youssouna family, which came second, won a set of 7 pots complete with tools to grow aromatic plants such as thyme, basil, etc.

The first prize, won by the Bechini family, who were absent at the awards ceremony, was a basket of organic products worth 170 euros.

Young volunteers from Unis-Cité Nice finished eighth among the 19 participating cities in France. It is “exemplary work,” praised Julie-Anne Lisiecki, Unis Cité project manager. However, the mission of these ten young volunteers is not over, as it will continue until June.
