Some have associated him with the emergence of Land Art, but he has rejected this label: “for me, Land Art is an American expression. It means bulldozers and big projects. It’s construction on land bought by artists, intended to make a large permanent monument, which doesn’t interest me at all.”
For the exhibition he presents at Mamac, the museum curator Gilbert Perlein gave him carte blanche, and so he shaped the entire floor at his whim, and from the entrance, you notice it, you feel his presence. From room to room, our eyes flutter with this sense of aesthetics, everything seems so simple, it’s a real breath of fresh air that propels us from one surprise to another.
What you can see there will make you dream but will not be so far from your reality, as the artist wanted to immerse himself in our hinterland and bring it (stone from La Turbie, clay from Vallauris…).
A refreshing exhibition to discover, from which you will leave soothed with only one small downside: we would have liked to see more!
