Right-wing primary: SOS Homophobie reminds us of the principle of equality for all, regardless of sexual orientation and/or gender identity.

François Fillon and Alain Juppé are in the final stretch of the second round of the right-wing primary. SOS homophobie highlights each candidate’s stance on issues related to LGBT people, particularly the law opening marriage and adoption to same-sex couples.

While Alain Juppé has committed to preserving the law, François Fillon has announced its revision, specifically the removal of the right to full adoption for married homosexual couples. If this provision were implemented, it would result in legal discrimination based on sexual orientation, as only heterosexual couples would have the ability to fully adopt a child. Both candidates also oppose the right to medically assisted procreation (MAP) for single women and female couples.

Like a vast majority of French society, SOS homophobie recognizes the diversity of family models and is very attentive to their respect. Our association remains and will remain extremely vigilant regarding the freedoms and acquired rights of lesbian, gay, bi, and trans people. It continues to campaign for full recognition of their rights and freedoms, including opening MAP to all women and granting trans people access to a fully depathologized, free, and easy legal gender change.

By respecting and ensuring the principle of equality for everyone, regardless of sexual orientation and/or gender identity, we will build a more just, open, and inclusive society.
