On the occasion of the Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games, the French team included 396 athletes, a record.
Within the French delegation, there were 92 international university athletes who had previously participated in Summer Universiades (the largest multi-sport event in the world after the Olympics) or World University Championships, including 53 medalists.
University sports place particular emphasis on the development of quality physical and sports education for the benefit of citizens. Among other things, its objective is to strengthen the role of sport in public life.
All around the world, the number of students is rapidly increasing; their social and national backgrounds are diversifying, and they are also becoming more mobile, easily moving from one discipline to another, from one university to another, and from one country to another.
At the same time, the young adult population tends to isolate themselves in a virtual environment that promotes individualism. Therefore, sports must be fully integrated into higher education and research centers, taking a prominent place in transdisciplinary strategies.
In this way, the decision-makers of the future will realize how important it is to associate sports with social and economic policies.
This will result in perpetuating and enriching the skills of self-confident and socially responsible citizens.
Champions today, leaders tomorrow!
