Latest News

The prefecture has published the provisional ODSR figures for December 2025, with a sharp increase in mortality while the year 2025 concludes with a decrease in the total number of deaths.

The Alpes-Maritimes prefecture has released the provisional report on road traffic accidents for December 2025. The data from the departmental road safety observatory show a marked increase in deaths over the month, whereas bodily injuries and serious injuries remain close to the levels observed a year earlier. However, the year 2025 ends with fewer deaths than in 2024, thanks in particular to a significant decrease concerning motorized two-wheeler users.

A December marked by contrasts due to the holiday season

The month of December 2025 recorded 56 bodily injury accidents, a level close to that of December 2024. Seven people lost their lives, compared to two the previous year. Twenty-five serious injuries were reported, a stable figure compared to the previous year. Pedestrians were the most affected category this month, with four deaths. Two motorists and one motorized two-wheeler user were also among the victims.

The age distribution highlights mortality concentrated among those 25-64 years old and those 65 and older. Three deaths concern the 25-64 age group and four deaths concern those over 65. Minors and young adults were not affected during this period.

The most serious accidents predominantly occur in urban areas, with five cases reported. One death occurred outside urban areas, and another on a highway. Four deaths were concentrated on Wednesday, while other days of the week were less affected. The time slot between 12 PM and 8 PM accounted for the majority of deaths in the month.

Throughout the year 2025, 51 deaths were recorded in the department, compared to 55 in 2024. Motorized two-wheeler users remain the most affected, even though their annual mortality rate decreases significantly. Pedestrians and motorists follow in the distribution of victims.

The prefecture also states that 271 driving license suspensions were issued in December 2025, compared to 282 the previous year. They remind of the tightening of the suspension scale since February 1, 2025, which « does not grant any tolerance to probationary licenses. »
