As every month, the Prefecture has published the provisional road accident report for the Alpes-Maritimes for October 2025. While road fatalities have fallen sharply compared with 2024, the number of injury accidents and seriously injured people has increased.
The provisional report for October 2025 highlights a mixed situation. According to data from the Departmental Road Safety Observatory, one person died on the roads in October 2025, compared with five deaths in October 2024. This is a significant decrease. The trend is also confirmed over the period from 1 January to 31 October: 38 deaths were recorded in 2025, compared with 50 over the same period in 2024.
Since the beginning of the year, fatalities have mainly concerned three categories of road users. Motorised two-wheel users, with 12 deaths, account for a large share of the victims. Pedestrians are also affected, with 10 fatalities, while car occupants account for eight deaths.
While fatalities declined in October, other indicators moved in the opposite direction. The number of injury accidents rose from 52 to 63, an increase of more than 21%. The number of seriously injured people increased from 20 to 31, according to non-final data provided by the internal security forces.
Variations by Age Group and Location
Fatalities vary according to age group. No victims were under 18 years old. The 25–64 age group was affected, with one death, compared with three in October 2024. No deaths were recorded among 18–24-year-olds or those aged 65 and over, whereas these groups accounted for zero and one death respectively last year.
The location of fatal accidents has also changed. One death occurred in urban areas, compared with two in October 2024. No fatalities were recorded outside urban areas, whereas three had been reported over the same period last year. As in 2024, no deaths occurred on motorways in October 2025.
Weekly data show a limited distribution. The single fatality occurred on a Friday. No deaths were recorded on other days, compared with five fatalities spread across several days in October 2024, including three on a Thursday. In terms of time of day, the fatal accident occurred between noon and 8 p.m., compared with four deaths during that time slot last year. No fatalities were recorded during other time periods.
Stronger Enforcement and Awareness Campaigns
The Prefecture also reports an increase in driving licence suspensions. 336 suspension orders were issued between 1 and 31 October 2025, compared with 293 over the same period in 2024. This increase is part of a policy implemented on 1 February 2025. The document states that the Prefect “has decided to revise the scale of driving licence suspensions” and is adopting a firmer stance, granting no tolerance for probationary licences.
State services have announced several road safety awareness actions planned for November and December, targeting different audiences, including travellers, employees, young people and motorists.
The programme includes:
-
a road safety escape game at Nice Côte d’Azur Airport on 27 and 28 November;
-
participation in the Téléthon in Gattières on 5 and 6 December;
-
two distribution operations of breathalysers and prevention materials near shopping centres on 10 and 17 December;
-
a road safety awareness day on 19 December at the Saint-Augustin police station for young people aged 14 to 15;
-
another initiative around the festive period in Cagnes-sur-Mer;
-
and a final operation on 30 December at a rest area on the A8 motorway in Mougins.
These initiatives complement the regular publications of the Departmental Road Safety Observatory, which provides updated accident figures for the department. The Prefecture also recalls that 55 people were killed on the roads in 2024, and 334 were seriously injured, according to last year’s provisional report.
