The prefecture released the provisional report on road accidents in 2021 in the Alpes-Maritimes this Thursday. The number of accidents and victims has increased compared to 2020.
The provisional report on road accidents in 2021 in the Alpes-Maritimes was released this Thursday by the prefecture. All indicators, including the number of accidents, injuries, and deaths, have increased compared to 2020 but remain below the figures for 2019. In 2021, 52 people died in accidents on the roads of the Alpes-Maritimes.
Motorized two-wheeler users with engines over 50 cm3 are the primary victims of fatal accidents. 21 people died in 2021 on the roads of the Alpes-Maritimes, accounting for more than 40% of the 52 deaths.
The number of fatalities has increased by 20% compared to 2020. The number of injuries has increased by 13%. However, the prefecture emphasizes that “the very atypical context of the health crisis does not allow conclusions to be drawn from these figures.”
The indicators have decreased in comparison to those of 2019. Among the objectives set for the year 2022 by the Department is the fight against “driving distractions, especially mobile phones (…) an increasingly common cause of accidents.”
