Maupity, you are familiar with since we recently dedicated an interview to them. But In Vitraux? Who are they?
In Vitraux was born in the beautiful spring of 2000. During the summer season, the four young men at the helm made their first public appearance. But very soon, they felt orphaned. Something was missing. In the autumn of 2001, they were in search of synergy. The synergy, it was Nath, a 17-year-old woman, who would bring it.
In Vitraux took off in the winter of 2003 and in the spring of 2004: concerts, studio recordingsโฆ their performance dates lined up back to back.
The band is made up of five members, just like the fingers of a hand!
โ Nath is on vocals,
โ Solly and Baraw play the guitar,
– Chris on bass and Mika on drums.
After six years of existence, In Vitraux has its album “Dรฉviation” in stores and is still on “its path of rock heading towards new festivals and new stages, conquering an ever more enthusiastic public!”
Nice-Premiรจre took a “Detour” to In Vitraux.
Nice-Premiรจre: Is In Vitraux an in vitro band?
In Vitraux: Yes! When it comes to composition. An idea is born in the mind of one of the members and it is as five, in our cozy cocoon, that our titles grow and are born, before going to present them live and, eventually recording them when they have matured.
N-P: What is the origin of the band name?
I.V.: It all started with our common love for the band Nirvana, especially their last studio album “in utero”. We wanted a name that sounded like a nod. Initially, therefore, we thought of In Vitro… But we were far from being the first to think of this name. With a clever twist, Baraw proposed In Vitraux and the name stuck.
N-P: In Vitraux, “French rock band with influences as diverse as Skunk Anansie, Muse, or System of a Down,” how would you define your music?
I.V.: We play rock, with choruses that are quite pop and an energy that sometimes leans towards metal. But the most important thing for us is to be melodic. We always keep this guideline in mind for our compositions.
N-P: Why did you title your album “Dรฉviation” (Deviation is also a rock band name https://www.deviation-le-groupe.net/)?
I.V.: “Dรฉviation” (track 7) is one of our favorite titles. It represents our style very well. And since there is no direct line on our album, the titles come from different eras and several studio sessions, it goes in several directions… We do not always want to stay on the same road. This title well symbolizes the content of the album.
And thanks for the link to the band Deviation, it’s very enjoyable to listen to!
N-P: How was “Comma” composed?
I.V.: It all started with a bass line that our former bassist, Elvis, played in rehearsal for us to come up with ideas. In 10 minutes of jam, the song had imposed itself on us in its almost definitive form. The title came much later, because we did not know “how” to call this piece so we called it “how” until we finally opted for “comma”. You will have noticed that we appreciate a lot of puns…
N-P: 6 years of existence already! An anecdote that marked you during these years?
I.V.: Yeah, a beautiful adventure that has been written for already six years without realizing how time flies. No particular anecdote, but a lot of memories of laughter, craziness on stage, other bands with whom we get along super well…
N-P: Your band is a group of 5: 4 boys and a girl, tell me Nath, is it difficult to assert yourself in a band of guys?
Nath: No because the principle was not to impose but to complement. It’s not a singer and musicians, it’s an androgynous entity, 5 people with the same vision of music. And the touch of femininity serves the masculine side of our universe.
N-P: And you, guys, how would you define Nath?
Solly, Baraw, Mika, and Chris: Roaring, bouncing, passionate…
N-P: I read on your website that your album sold nearly 500 copies in the Nice region in March 2006. Showcase, radio, concerts…Happy?
I.V.: Yes, happy, but even more surprised that everything went like in a dream, without a hitch. It motivates us to give our best and continue to move forward!
N-P: Where will we find you this summer?
I.V.: This August, In Vitraux will be resting! … You can find Nath at Lie, Solly in the next K-maro clip, Chris in a nightclub in Cannes, Baraw at the “barbaric nest” or in pubs and Mika in the emergency room on the footsteps of Dr. Carter or in pubs with Baraw.
N-P: And how do you see the start of the new school year?
I.V.: We are currently courting rock festivals to be able to share our music with as many people as possible.
N-P: “What time is it?”
I.V.: Uh… time for an aperitif?
N-P: Do you believe in “seers”?
I.V.: Yessss, of course.
N-P: Ever consulted one?
I.V.: Yessss, of course. But only the blind ones, and via the internet.
N-P: What would you like her to tell you?
I.V.: Long life, fertility, and prosperity to “In Vitraux”!!
