It is the penalties that start the hostilities, Aubagne scores first on a double power play (4 against 2). Nice, in their turn with a numerical advantage, equalizes and takes the lead on a second power play (2 to 1). However, a lone opposing attacker brings his team back to score just before the break, thanks to the Nice defense leaving him alone.

The match is tight and played at a false pace. The Angels are technically and collectively stronger, but the Jokers effectively lock down the game. With better intentions and especially more speed, the locals perform well in the second half and manage to escape the opposing trap. Quickly, they manage to score through Manu MILANO following a nice play by his captain Cyril DUCHASSIN. But on a harmless shot, Aubagne maintains contact (3 all at the 31st minute).

The break finally happens on two textbook plays, Gaetan CHAMPION beautifully sets up Willy VALAIZE, and Cyril DUCHASSIN finishes a smooth and quick play orchestrated by Damien FONTAINE and Manu MILANO (5 to 3). Aubagne has one last burst, putting pressure back on the locals, but that does not account for Damien FONTAINE in great form, who, with a remarkably precise shot, seals the victory for the Angels (final score 6 to 4).

It is noteworthy that international goaltender Roman DE PREVAL, who arrived in the region for his osteopathy studies, made his debut under his new colors, strengthening a team that continues to improve as the matches progress. Nice remains undefeated at home and continues their path at the top of the group.

Next matchday is Saturday, January 23rd, in Nîmes.
