“Roots and Wings” in the Mercantour National Park

Latest News

The cultural program on France 3, “Des racines et des ailes,” among the most-watched on major general-interest channels, is setting up for a week in the Mercantour National Park, from October 8 to 14, 2009.

The goal of this half-hour report on the Park will be to present the major missions and projects it undertakes for the knowledge, reception, and development of its territory.

The shooting team’s schedule, led by Delphine Pruneault, is packed with the following agenda:
– The scientific monitoring of the wolf, notably focusing on the wolf captured in July 2009, then equipped with a GPS collar.
– The comprehensive inventory of the biodiversity of the Argentera Mercantour massif will also be highlighted. On this occasion, the filming team will follow local scientists and naturalists: capturing butterflies and insects will be filmed.
– A “chamois counting” operation will be an opportunity to show how the wild fauna is recorded and to present the job of park ranger in a National Park and relationships with local partners.
– Finally, the report will put a special emphasis on welcoming visitors in the Vallée des Merveilles. A Park ranger will explain why and how it is important to monitor and manage this world-renowned historical site. Henry De Lumley, Emeritus Professor at the National Museum of Natural History and Director of the Institute of Human Paleontology, will participate in a sequence.

The program is likely to be broadcast in 2010 on France Télévision.
