Nice-Premium: What can be done to quickly find a solution to the decrepitude of Nice’s prison?
Rudy Salles: We need to find a flat piece of land. This isn’t an easy task in Nice. But we need to think of this project in terms of the larger urban area, and I would even say broadly. That’s why there should be coordination within the CANCA, and also with neighboring urban areas like Côteaux d’Azur because this facility concerns not just Nice.
NP: Three prisoners for one spot: How did we get here?
Rudy Salles: It has even been worse since we had reached nearly 1,000 inmates for 280 spots. This is unacceptable and is the result of long-term irresponsibility by the Ministry of Justice and also due to a lack of political will locally to find a site.
NP: Where should the next prison be located, and how do we make the neighbors accept it?
Rudy Salles: For my part, I have a preference for the Bec de l’Estéron. It is now easily accessible thanks to the RN 202 bis and given the absence of a neighborhood, there are no issues with nuisances.
NP: What would be your project for the current prison?
Rudy Salles: The land of the current prison is magnificently located. We lack housing for working people in Nice. This site would seem to be perfectly suited to host such a real estate operation.
