Stade Niçois secures a second consecutive victory against a direct competitor. Nice triumphed at Aurillac (16-25).
After securing their first home victory last week, Stade Niçois needed to win at Aurillac to move out of the relegation zone. This bottom of the table clash lived up to its promises, especially in the second half. Indeed, during the first forty minutes, both teams assessed each other, failing to break through and settled for three points each at halftime. The first half was intense and didn’t deliver the expected point fest. The stakes and the fear of losing likely overshadowed creative play.
The second half unlocks the match
Coming out of the locker room, the Niçois made errors, conceding three more points, putting Aurillac ahead. However, the solution came from the forward pack, after a lot of time played near the line. It was Daly who dived into the try area to score Nice’s first try. Romain Riguet was impeccable with the conversion and made no mistake in adding the extra points.
Aurillac committed too many fouls and conceded a yellow card that the Niçois capitalized on. Despite Aurillac leveling the score with a drop goal and a try, the Nice pack once again proved its worth and after several plays, it was Vignolles who put the Niçois back in front. The winger Erasmus capped the performance after a magnificent kick from Romain Riguet. The Niçois confirmed their good current form and used this victory to move out of the relegation zone.
The next appointment for the Niçois will be next week at home against Valence Romans.
