After the colors of graffiti artists Retro Graffitism and Stew, the hands of “Ligne de vie” by visual artist Miryan Klein, artist Sabine Géraudie known as SAB, is now decorating the construction fences of the tramway project – in the Durandy sector – with a mural scattered with the famous blue chair, also rendered in red and black to recall the “Nissartes” colors.
Starting today, this mural featuring blue chairs will be visible on Rue Pastorelli. Measuring thirty-eight meters long and one and a half meters wide, it invites passersby to discover the mythical blue chair from an unexpected angle.
An integral part of Nice’s history, the “blue chairs” have ensured the rest of walkers on the Promenade des Anglais since 1950 and have since become the emblem of the Promenade des Anglais. Frequently revamped to make it perfect by the Tordo Family, its original creator and manufacturer, the latest models were designed by architect Jean-Michel Wilmotte.
A true source of inspiration, the artist SAB has patented her design of the “blue chair” and develops a range of derivative products around the famous Nice seat: paintings, jewelry sculptures, series, unique pieces… and since October 4, 2014, the giant sculpture installed on the Promenade des Anglais at the Phocéens intersection.
Regularly, local and national artists decorate the construction site fences to offer residents, passersby, and tourists colorful works. The City of Nice seized the opportunity of the West-East tram line work to enliven neighborhoods by offering artistic expression spaces on the construction site fences.
Sab’s mural fully aligns with this initiative desired by Christian Estrosi, which aims to develop art in urban spaces.
Soliciting creators to introduce a contemporary artistic presence into the urban landscape has become a reality to which the City of Nice is particularly committed.
