The Saint Jazz Club returns—every second Friday in Saint-Jean Cap-Ferrat—with new “Jazz & Literature” meetings before the evening concert. A winter festival on the French Riviera that has already found its audience.
For this new season, there will be only one author, Franck Médioni*, with whom the public can take this unprecedented and thrilling journey on the jazz route through six time stages (1928-2013) richly illustrated musically. A “serial” that should reduce the frustration of only featuring five or six tracks to discuss such an important book.
He will present the book: Sounds of Surprise, Jazz in 100 Records (Editions Le Mot et le Reste / Marseille)
Sounds of Surprise, this is how the famous American conductor Leonard Bernstein defined one of the major cultural inventions of the early 20th century, along with cinema: jazz. This book is an anthology that serves not only as a listening guide, an ideal jazz discography, but also as a selection of one hundred records that have profoundly marked the history of African-American music. It’s a practical guide for all music lovers who feel a bit lost in the record store aisles…
This symposium will be followed by the first of the concerts by Nina Papa Quartet.
*Nina Papa comes to charm us and deliver an enchanting scent of Brazilian summer with her project Bossa Joïa. It’s bossa nova, of course! But not only that… Her latest album, Evidência, is full of new tracks, written and composed mainly by Nina and Béatrice Alunni, her pianist. Her trio gives wings to Nina Papa! Saravah…*
