The Mayor of Nice, known for his support of the thesis of a clash of civilizations and for frequently denouncing the presence of a “fifth column” with terrorist aims on national territory, is alarmed and issues a warning: “A few weeks ago, individuals with Salafist tendencies were once again attempting to find a location in the Ariane district. These preachers are evidently continuing their proselytizing activities in Nice.”
His denunciation is specific: “We know that these individuals frequent other prayer halls. I have sent a letter to the Prefect asking him to intensify controls on these identified locations, particularly in one of the halls on Pégurier Street.”
Christian Estrosi has once again addressed the Prefect of the Alpes-Maritimes, requesting him to do everything possible to monitor the associations, places, and individuals who identify with Salafism and promote a discourse of hatred towards the West, violence, and regression.
Given the sensitivity of the subject and the quality of the information (if verified) at his disposal, wouldn’t the Mayor of Nice be better off operating discreetly in coordination with the police forces and judiciary tasked with these investigations, rather than making it a public matter?
Unless the actual objective is something else entirely, such as fostering the notion of the presence of a certain “fifth column” lurking in the shadows…
