Sales: Gloomy Outlook. Are the people of the Côte d’Azur spending less?

Latest News

With 7 days left until the end of the sales, what is the assessment of the summer sales? According to Jacques Kotler, President of the “Commerce” Commission of the CCI Nice Côte d’Azur: “The summer sales that are soon ending have a bitter taste for the merchants. Unfortunately, this observation is not surprising in a bleak economic context.”

These are the questions posed to 500 businesses categorized by their sector of activity (home equipment, personal goods, beauty, leisure) and geographical location.

This study allowed us to gauge the “commerce” activity on the Côte d’Azur and focus on the merchants’ expectations to better support their needs.

For 53% of the merchants surveyed, attendance is lower than last year, even though discounts of 30 and 40% were applied from the first days by 65% of the merchants.

Only 19% of respondents estimated their average shopping basket to be over €100, with the average basket typically ranging between €20 and €50 for 36%.

For nearly 50% of the merchants, the turnover was therefore lower than in 2013.
