For the first time, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry Nice Cรดte d’Azur is launching a survey among 300 merchants to evaluate the trends of this first sales period.
In fact, although its impact has waned, the sales period remains an important event and a key driver for commercial activity.
This assessment of the initial trends reveals a gloomy mindset among the merchants.
According to Jacques Kotler, President of the “Commerce” Commission of the CCI Nice Cรดte d’Azur: “The study of these first trends will be supplemented by a preliminary numerical report on the sales period, by the end of July.”
After a cautious start, certain sectors nevertheless reveal more pessimism than others.
Thus, 81% of Azurian merchants believe that their traffic will be equal to or less than last year. Only 21% of them anticipate an increase in their turnover compared to the summer sales period of 2013.
The hygiene/beauty/health and leisure sectors remain generally confident, with nearly 80% of merchants anticipating turnover that is comparable or superior to last year.
Conversely, the two sectors encompassing the largest number of businesses in the Alpes Maritimes: personal equipment and home equipment, show much more restraint. 38% of merchants in the personal equipment sector anticipate a drop in their turnover, while 40% are in the home equipment sector.
According to Jacques Kotler, President of the “Commerce” Commission of the CCI Nice Cรดte d’Azur: “The study of these first trends will be supplemented by a preliminary numerical report on the sales period, by the end of July. An initiative that will enable the CCI ‘commerce’ service to support merchants as closely as possible according to their needs.”
