Save the Planet or the Great Beach Clean-Up of Nice

Latest News

This Wednesday, for the 5th Edition of Save the Planet, Hard Rock Cafe Nice and its clients are mobilizing to support Nice’s efforts to restore the shine to the beaches of the Promenade des Anglais before the summer season arrives. The people of Nice and the Cรดte d’Azur were once again called to participate in a civic initiative.

After 5 hours of collection, it’s time to assess this eco-citizen day:

  • 48 volunteers joined forces
  • 131.10kg of “small” waste was collected. Most of it consisted of cigarette butts, various plastic wrappers, aluminum packaging, beer caps, shards of glass, etc.
  • Approximately 450 kg of metals and cast iron plates were retrieved.

Two birds, one stone…

This operation was driven by the words “action” and “awareness.”

Raising awareness. How? By participating in an initiative primarily intended to increase awareness. Despite the significant efforts made by the City of Nice to keep our coastline clean, cigarette butts and other litter thrown out of negligence can end up trapped among the pebbles, rocks, and hard-to-reach areas. Thus, participating in this day is also about informing oneself, realizing the issue, and in turn, raising awareness among the local and tourist population.

Taking action. How? By simply equipping oneself with gloves, a trash bag, and cleaning the beaches to rid them of the waste washed ashore by the Mediterranean Sea. This is the civic mission promoted by Hard Rock Cafe Nice as part of the Ocean Initiatives program by the Surfrider Foundation Europe. Whether you come for half a day, a few hours, or even a few minutes… No effort is too small.

A global and viral fight…

The operation conducted today by Hard Rock Cafe Nice echoes many concrete actions that have gone viral and, indeed, global. At a time when environmental preservation is crucial, countless solidarity challenges abound online. The Trashtag Challenge has captivated internet users and brings young people from all over the world together for the environmental cause.

The principle? Clean and share. All you need to do is choose a place overrun with waste, clean the area as part of a collection, take a photo of the site before/after cleaning, and share it on social media.

The TrashTag campaign was launched in 2015 by UCO, a camping equipment brand. The innovative concept itself dates back to last March 5th, initiated by an Algerian environmentalist who wanted to encourage “all the bored young people”…

Your turn!
