The riders completed the first stage in the late afternoon after crossing the Col de Vence and its 9.8 km ascent.
After a lunch break in Thorenc, the route took the riders to Castellane and then along the right bank of the Verdon Gorges. The participants finally arrived in the early evening, exhausted but satisfied with their performance.
“This first stage was very beautiful and I had a great time. I was pleased to find that I was in good shape, which allowed me to beat my personal record in the Col de Vence. Superb organization!” A testimonial from William Robert, a rider of the Nice – Mont Ventoux.
Tomorrow, the second stage will take the peloton to Mazan via the Valensole Plateau and the Albion Plateau.
