The president of the LR party in Paca, Christian Estrosi, inaugurated on Tuesday the first security gates installed at a train station in the region, at Les Arcs in Var, an experimental device aimed at developing the “gateway of tomorrow” adapted to rail transport.
The system should also allow for simultaneously checking the presence of a valid travel ticket and the absence of any dangerous products.
An independent expert committee had drawn up a positive report in April on the security gates installed in December 2015 on the Thalys train platforms. The system, coupled with other solutions, should be maintained and extended, particularly in the stations of the 10 cities that will host matches during Euro 2016.
Christian Estrosi did not hide his satisfaction during his speech: “I had clearly indicated, I want to strengthen the security of trains in our region.”
The Provence-Alpes-Cรดte-DโAzur region holds the record:
– for trains delayed or canceled, with an irregularity rate of 22%
– for criminal acts, with 7,000 incidents in 2015
– for the rate of fraud, with more than 18.5% reported, reaching up to 30% on certain lines, which costs the region nearly 30 million Euros per year (15Mโฌ in lost revenue and 15Mโฌ in operating costs to combat it)
