In a month, from Friday, October 4th to Sunday, October 6th, the Nice Côte d’Azur by UTMB will take place. It’s a trail event on the Côte d’Azur that offers four races for nature and performance enthusiasts. The reward: breathtaking scenery and a legendary finish on the Promenade des Anglais.
Every year, at the beginning of October, the Côte d’Azur becomes the stage for a sporting event: the Nice Côte d’Azur by UTMB. Organized in an exceptional setting, this UTMB-labeled race offers runners the opportunity to discover the Southern Alps while tackling high-intensity courses. With four events ranging from short trails to extreme ultra-trails, the challenges are designed for both amateurs and seasoned athletes. Whether participating in the 22, 54, 107, or 159 km race, all share a promise: to immerse themselves in the wild beauty of the Mercantour National Park while culminating spectacularly on the famous Promenade des Anglais in Nice.
Four races for all levels
Indeed, the Nice Côte d’Azur by UTMB is not just a single race. Moreover, there are some changes compared to the previous edition. This year, four events are planned, varying in distance and difficulty. For short trail enthusiasts, a 22 km course with 700 meters of elevation offers a nice introduction. Those seeking a tougher challenge will opt for the long trail of 54 km with its 2,100 meters of elevation.
But the soul of this event lies in its two ultra-trails. The first, 107 km long with 4,500 meters of elevation, tests runners’ ability to traverse mountains and forests through extreme endurance. As for the second, it’s a real physical feat with 159 km and 8,200 meters of elevation to conquer. Participants will have 48 hours to complete this ultra-marathon. An adventure that will take them from the peaks of the Southern Alps to the edge of the Mediterranean.
Between mountain and sea with a legendary finish on the Promenade des Anglais
The Nice Côte d’Azur by UTMB course is a tribute to the region’s geographical richness and natural diversity. Starting from places like Auron, Roubion, Èze, or even Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat, runners will move through the heart of the Mercantour National Park. The luckiest might even catch sight of the majestic Cime du Gélas, the highest point of the massif at 3,143 meters above sea level.
The descent towards the sea promises postcard-worthy views. After hours of effort, intense climbs, and technical descents, runners will cross the finish line on the legendary Promenade des Anglais in Nice. A unique setting to close this exceptional adventure.
