Semiacs Case: the Cities of Nice and Cagnes-sur-Mer and Semiacs as Civil Parties

Latest News

The Semiacs case is full of twists and turns. The latest development is the filing for civil action by the company itself, as well as by the two shareholder municipalities, Nice and Cagnes-sur-Mer.

Following the indictment of five individuals, including former General Manager Henri Alonzo, who is incarcerated, the former operations director, who is also his son-in-law, former President Benoît Kandel, who was the first deputy during the previous term (2008-2014) and is an opposition municipal councilor, and two entrepreneurs in the context of the Semiacs case, the local authority shareholders of the company and Semiacs itself have announced their decision to act as civil parties.

Here are the full statements:

Following the indictments issued by the judge against five people, including the former president and former deputy general director of SEMIACS for favoritism, illegal taking of interest, organized gang fraud, as well as corruption, abuse of corporate assets, and embezzlement of public funds, the cities of Nice and Cagnes-sur-Mer, the major public shareholders of the said company, have logically decided, in continuation of the actions initiated to ensure transparency in this case, to file as a civil party from today.

This civil party action is intended to allow participation in the proceedings as victims and, at the end of the procedure, to legally claim compensation for the damages that the taxpayers of Nice and Cagnes will have suffered as a result of the offenses that may have been committed.

Semiacs acknowledges the indictments pronounced against five people, including the former president and former deputy general director, primarily for irregularities related to the awarding of public contracts.

Semiacs intends to take all legal consequences from this situation and has decided to file as a civil party so that justice can fully elucidate the potential harm suffered by the company and obtain compensation.
