The file from Semiacs regarding the abandonment of the smart parking project provides the opposition with an unprecedented (and unexpected) angle of attack against the communication policy of the Mayor of Nice. Statements abound in this direction and are all unanimous in condemning Christian Estrosi’s mistake, which could prove costly for the already quite battered municipal finances.
Christian Estrosi has always claimed to know nothing about the dysfunctions of SEMIACS. Nonetheless, he cannot deny his previous commitment to implementing the “smart parking” initiative, which he regularly promoted.
This flagship project, launched with much fanfare in 2013, was the spearhead of the Mayor of Nice’s Smart-City initiative, and it has been out of service just three years after its implementation. Numerous technical problems, as well as a lack of competition in the awarding of contracts highlighted by the Regional Court of Auditors, have greatly undermined the system’s credibility.
SEMIACS has decided to suspend this system, which required the installation of hundreds of sensors in the curbs along parking spaces.
Who will reimburse the 10 million euros taken from the people of Nice?
Dominique Boy-Mottard and Marc Concas, Municipal Councillors, Radical and Miscellaneous Left Group.
