From March 3 to April 30, the city of Nice is launching a consultation for all citizens of Nice aged 55 and over. The goal: to give them a voice in shaping the city’s senior policy and thus obtain the “age-friendly city” label.
Since 2015, Nice has been a member of the “Francophone Network of Age-Friendly Cities” and now aims to obtain the “age-friendly city” label.
Why?
The city has 109,000 residents aged 55 or older (55 being the age at which one is considered a senior in Nice). Supporting seniors is a priority in its policy. Therefore, obtaining this label is a clear choice for the city.
How?
To obtain this label, Christian Estrosi and his deputy in charge of intergenerational and senior affairs, Franรงoise Monier, want seniors to contribute to developing new solutions across several themes: culture, leisure, housing, transport, service and care, social bonds, and solidarity.
Working groups composed of willing senior citizens from Nice will be set up to discuss the city’s necessary adaptations. This approach allows residents of Nice to actively participate in the policy decisions that affect them.
To participate in the consultation, simply fill out the contribution form available at the following places:
- At one of the six senior centers (Cimiez, Les Orangers, Pasteur, La Luna, Port Rรฉpublique, Le Ray) or at the Nice municipal office for seniors
- At the annex town halls
- Online at https://seniors.nice.fr
Only those over 55 are eligible.
What does this label represent in practical terms?
This label is intended to be a tool that enhances local public policies. The Francophone Network of Age-Friendly Cities already brings together French territories, aiming to support them in better addressing the challenges of demographic transition.
