Senseless violence at the Allianz Arena

Latest News

Poor logic! On Saturday evening, some 300 pseudo-supporters forced the president of OGC Nice to leave the stadium for security reasons due to their aggressive behavior: in their eyes, he was guilty of not investing enough money in the club to make the team more competitive.

Let’s allow the authorities in charge of the matter to conduct the necessary investigations to identify those responsible and take appropriate sanctions.

But the surprise is quite different: in the various comments on this issue, emphasis is placed on the fact that the origin or cause of these incidents might be due to the absence of fencing between the stands!

Regardless of the fact that the Allianz Riviera meets UEFA criteria, it is deemed “guilty” of favoring the exploits of these overexcited individuals disguised as supporters.

A pure and simple inversion of the cause-and-effect principle.

It is true that sometimes clubs, in the name of the sacrosanct “12th man,” are somewhat complicit with these groups of thugs who, an active minority amidst a silent majority, find a fertile ground to impose their law.

And once it is a player they don’t like, another time it is the coach who must be “sacked,” today, it is the president’s turn, guilty of not being a wealthy Qatari or an Eastern European oligarch, but simply a passionate local with limited financial means.

Furthermore, sports in Nice, as a whole, suffer from a lack of wealthy benefactors, and the various clubs mainly rely on generous municipal subsidies (to better understand, it would suffice to analyze the financial statements and compare the equity with public subsidies). A completely different fate should be reserved for people like Jean-Pierre Rivère.

But, to return to the events of Saturday night, where is the logic in that? We are almost impatiently waiting for someone to explain it to us.

To set the record straight, we must first remove any alibi from these troublemakers and call things by their name: unjustified and gratuitous violence. By doing so, we prevent them from receiving any form of leniency so that the perpetrators understand well, once and for all, that even before the law’s application, it is the clubs and other spectators who condemn them and refuse their presence.
