Séverine Tessier (Anticor) acquitted of the defamation accusation brought by Christian Estrosi

On January 25, 2016, the criminal court of Nice acquitted Séverine Tessier of the charge of defamation brought against her by Christian Estrosi.

In a complaint filed on August 22, 2013, the mayor of Nice had indeed accused the spokesperson of Anticor of publicly expressing her concerns about the management of toxic loans by the city, on one hand, and the financing of the public-private partnership for the large stadium, on the other hand.

On the merits, Anticor notes that the Justice system seems to share some of its concerns since the national financial prosecutor’s office opened a preliminary investigation in 2015 into the large stadium following a report by the regional audit chamber.

Anticor laments this new gagging procedure – obviously paid for with taxpayers’ money – which evidently had no other purpose than to stifle any criticism.
