With the transfer of the marinas to Nice Cรดte d’Azur and in accordance with his desire to make the Metropolis an exemplary and innovative territory in terms of environmental policy, Christian Estrosi, Mayor of Nice and President of the Nice Cรดte d’Azur Metropolis, has developed a general “Clean Ports” approach, with progress charters for ports that are more concerned with environmental preservation. The Ports of Azur are the spearhead of a “blue policy” for the Azur coastline.
To this end, he will sign a framework partnership agreement between the Nice Cรดte d’Azur Metropolis and the Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission for the promotion of new “blue” energy management solutions and for the use of the Zero CO2 Sailing Ship, with Jean Therme, Director of Technological Research at CEA, Director of CEA Grenoble, Deputy Director for Renewable Energies at CEA, representing the renowned Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission, on Friday, May 11, 2012, at 3 PM, at the harbor master’s office of the Port of Saint-Laurent-du-Var.
This agreement focuses on the promotion of new blue energy management solutions and on the use of the Zero CO2 sailing ship, developed by the Liten Institute (Laboratory for Innovation in New Energy Technologies and Nanomaterials) of the Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission (CEA) โ one of the largest European research centers on new energy technologies.
The Zero CO2 boat is an experimental sailing ship whose hydrogen tanks power a fuel cell capable of producing enough electricity to power the electric propulsion motor, thus only discharging pure water. A concentration of new technologies, the Zero CO2 sailing ship offers a complementary alternative to existing energy solutions and opens a new industrial perspective.
With a roadmap for developing a blue policy for ports and the coastline, the Ports of Azur are committed to preserving the marine environment and the exceptional character of the coastline.
