SKEMA Business School opens its Master of Science in “Luxury and Fashion Management” in China.

In 2008, SKEMA Business School officially announced the opening of a new campus in China, in the Suzhou technopole. This establishment has strengthened the school’s identity and reputation for the quality of its international student training and its involvement alongside companies around the world.
These advantages, combined with the reinforcement of SKEMA’s multi-campus strategy, have helped establish the attractiveness of this campus.

Since that date, nearly 500 students from the Grande Ecole programs and Master Of Science have been able to discover the specificities of the Chinese market by following an intensive semester of Mandarin courses, Chinese socio-economic systems, and Asian Business. Captivated by this unique experience, the majority of them have completed their studies with an internship or first job in an international or Chinese company.

Today, in line with the expectations and the tremendous potential of the Asian market, SKEMA has decided to open its Master of Science in “Luxury and Fashion Management” in September 2011 on its Suzhou campus. This program will also continue to be taught at our Sophia-Antipolis campus.

Ivan Coste-Manière, Scientific Director of this program, is delighted with the opportunities offered by this new course: “China is currently the third-largest luxury market globally with sector growth of nearly 30% in 2010; 40% of the Asian population is under 20 years old and constantly seeks innovation and luxury; Shanghai has become one of the reference cities in this field.” All reasons which make the opening of this MSc an obvious choice in his eyes, perfectly aligned with the vitality of the current luxury market in Asia.

Thus, starting September 2011, 30 students will join our Suzhou campus to learn and experience luxury the Chinese way. Beyond the three hours of Mandarin lessons each day, they will receive teachings from over 25 professional speakers, specialists in the field, who understand the particularities of the Asian luxury market. They will visit traditional production sites (silk, ceramic, and porcelain factories…) to grasp the manufacturing process of a product, from conception to sale. Students will be required to complete this experience with a minimum three-month internship in Asia. A comprehensive range of experiences that will enable these young managers to master the subtleties of Asian luxury.
