Good news for “Facebook users” and Skypers. On October 14, 2010, the social network and the telephony service (VoIP) announced an integration of their services. A partnership made possible by the new version of Skype: [version 5](https://www.skype.com/intl/fr/get-skype/on-your-computer/windows/). Specifically, this update allows contact with Facebook “friends” whose phone numbers are listed on the social network to the 500 million registered users, by calling them or sending them SMS messages. This update also allows Skype users to update their news feed and comment on their friends’ updates directly from the Skype page, Skype explained in a statement. Skype, based in Luxembourg, also announced a new experimental version of this update: multi-person video conferencing. Video calls are gaining momentum. In the first half of the year, video communications accounted for 40% of the 88.4 billion minutes of communication between Skype users.
Skype’s goal is to position itself against Google Voice, another VoIP service.
