Social: The stable homeless have their kings

Latest News

Yesterday at the Day Shelter, the homeless also got to enjoy the king cake. For a moment, they were able to forget their concerns and everyday troubles.

Whether labeled as “without stable housing” or “homeless,” the reality remains the same for nearly 800 people who sleep on the streets of Nice every day.

To help them forget their harsh daily life for a bit, the Communal Social Action Center (CCAS) organized a friendly meal featuring the king cake. Cakes were specially prepared by pastry chef and chocolatier Pascal Lac. “It makes me happy. If I can bring them a bit of comfort in these somewhat difficult times,” he assures.

Also present was Dr. Joëlle Martinaux, president of the CCAS. She confides, “We try to bring a little joy into their lives. To show them that their problems will be resolved one day. Because these people did not choose to live under these conditions and they need a helping hand.”

Certainly, unemployment remains the main reason for the marginalization of these people. But not only that. “Sometimes, these people find themselves on the street due to family breakdown, or life’s accidents. There are also people who might have mental health issues,” explains Joëlle Martinaux.

It gives us a bit of respite and above all, hope

Guy has been using the shelter for a year. He did not wish to talk about the difficulties he faces, but he says with a tight throat, “It’s nice to see that we are being supported by some people. It gives us a bit of respite and above all, hope.

In any case, the guests present, like Guy, were able to find for a moment a roof, a fire in the hearth, and plenty to fill their bellies. Frangipane cakes with almond powder from Spain and Provence. We’ll let you imagine!

Joëlle Martinaux assured that other actions like this would be carried out throughout the year.
