The new premises of “Marie’s Grocery” were inaugurated on Monday by Christian Estrosi, Deputy-Mayor of Nice, and Monseigneur André Marceau, Bishop of Nice.
This social grocery store, managed by the MIR association and presided over by Father Patrick Bruzzone, the priest of the Church of Saint-Pierre de l’Ariane, is located in the former Saint-Pierre chapel on a surface of 190 square meters, providing vital food assistance to nearly 500 families facing economic difficulties.
Since 2007, the Ariane district has benefited from a comprehensive requalification operation.
As part of the Ariane I phase, focusing on the St Pierre block, around Emile Ripert, Anatole de Monzie, Jouhaux, and Château St Pierre streets, a new and unprecedented dynamic exists between housing, employment, and social development.
This is also the objective of the Ariane II phase, which concerns the requalification of the Paillon River bank, as well as the expansion of the Sitelles Square to the Boulevard de l’Ariane.
Phase II notably includes the demolition of the “Paillon 4” Tower of Côte d’Azur Habitat, which housed, on the ground floor, the premises of the MIR association and the Secours Catholique.
These have been relocated to the Sitelles Square, at the heart of the district, by the social landlord with the support of the Nice Côte d’Azur Metropolis, the project leader of the renovation.
