EVEN THE RAIN by Iciar Bollain,
Followed by a discussion with Jean Jamet, CCFD: Terre Solidaire
(Catholic Committee against Hunger and for Development)
On the occasion of International Solidarity Week,
PECOS is organizing the screening of the Mexican film También la
lluvia (Even the Rain) by Icíar Bollaín.
The story of Sebastian, a young passionate director, and his
producer as they begin shooting a film in the beautiful
setting of the Bolivian mountains.
- The production budgets are tight and Costa, the producer, is pleased
- to be able to hire local actors and extras at a lower cost. But soon,
- the filming is disrupted by a revolt led by one of the main extras
- against the authorities who want to privatize access to running water.
- Based on a true story, the water war that
- took place in 2000 in Cochabamba, creating this film
- was a real challenge; it was like making three films in one
- firstly a period film, but also a film about a recent
conflict, and finally a film about the making of a period film ». Icíar Bollaín
This film will allow us to address, through an artistic lens—and not just any lens (a film chosen by Spain for the Oscar for Best Foreign Film, with a screenplay by Paul Laverty, Ken Loach’s screenwriter!)—the global issue of water management.
