Sophia Antipolis is home to nearly 38,000 employees, 5,500 students, and 4,500 researchers moving around the largest technology park in Europe. These movements, totaling 30,000 every morning and evening, are mainly done by private car, causing daily traffic jams.
The Department of Alpes-Maritimes and the Sophia Antipolis Agglomeration Community, aware of the increasing traffic difficulties due to the rise in traffic, the diverse interactions, and the functions of the Antibes Nord site and the technology park, agreed in the fall of 2017 to conduct a feasibility study aimed at improving traffic conditions and exchanges for all modes of transport in the CASA area, particularly directed at the Sophia Antipolis technology park.
The study began in July with an update of socio-economic, urban, and environmental data. It is currently continuing with a traffic study, which includes a large-scale road count campaign in the fall with a survey of origins and destinations.
The first development proposals will be presented during the first half of 2019 and will be followed by a modeling of the projects within the multimodal transportation model of the Alpes Maritimes, to analyze their effects.
