The Sophia Games are celebrating their 25th anniversary and the 50th anniversary of the technology park from May 20 to June 21, with plenty of new features: an E-sport challenge, climbing, and a special double anniversary event, SophiAdventure, a walking tour through the iconic places of Sophia Antipolis.
This edition will kick off at full speed this Monday with events in basketball, belote contrรฉe, 5-a-side football, karting, Laser Quest, padel, and archery, and will be officially opened the following day, Tuesday, May 21, with the Cross (3 and 9 km) and active walk events.
The games will continue until Thursday, June 20, concluding with a closing party at La Siesta Antibes. It will be a festive evening offered to the participants, accompanied by its famous raffle, with very attractive prizes once again to be won this year.
A range of 40 sports and leisure activities for all levels on the program
For a month, this sport, leisure and festive event, now inseparable from Sophia Antipolis, will allow employees and students of all levels to meet across forty sports disciplines. In addition to the disciplines from the first day of the games, there will be squash, tennis, golf, men’s and women’s handball, football, as well as less physically demanding disciplines like geocaching, chess, poker, and photomarathon. The range is broad.
2019 Novelties
There are also a few new features in this area: an E-sport challenge, held on Saturday, June 15 (9 am-6 pm) with teams of 2 people; a Climbing event, in the Garbejaire hall with 2 planned sessions on Tuesday, June 11 (noon) and Thursday, June 13 (evening) to discover bouldering… And then, also new, SophiAdventure, a special “Anniversaries” event for the 25th anniversary of the Games and the 50th anniversary of Sophia Antipolis: puzzles to solve and fun events to complete in 3 hours on a walking tour through iconic locations of the technology park on Thursday, June 6.
An “Harry Potter” Urban Game
Note in this 2019 batch, the “Harry Potter” Urban game. It’s a well-crafted new thinking game, organized by Maxime from Indacity, around the saga of the most famous young wizard: set off in search of the 8th Horcrux in the streets of Valbonne village (several dates are given). As for the Beach volleyball event, it becomes Grass volley for this 25th edition at the Bouillides stadium on Saturday, June 8. The 2nd Trail of the Games, on Tuesday, June 11, will offer both an accessible and a technical course that will take place in the evening.
