The 3rd Caravan of Hope organized by the SOS Nolwenn association will set off on Saturday, June 9th. Meet at 8 AM at the Promenade des Anglais in front of the Centenary Monument.
From June 9th to 23rd, a team of about fifteen volunteers from the association will travel over 1000 kilometers on foot and by bike, to connect Nice to Locquirec in Finistรจre.
During the 2nd Caravan, 10,000 euros were collected and subsequently donated to the IME of Val Paillon (in Sclos de Contes).
The goal of this long sporting and charitable journey is to raise awareness about Joubert syndrome, a rare disease that affects one in 100,000 children worldwide, which the young Nolwenn has been diagnosed with.
SOS Nolwenn was created five years ago by Gaรซlle and Daniel, Nolwenn’s mother and grandfather, to combat the complete lack of media coverage of this disease, which is characterized by a congenital brainstem malformation and leads to various disorders: balance, coordination of movements, vision, learningโฆ
Nolwenn, now 16 years old, has had to endure countless hospital stays, physiotherapy sessions, speech therapy, neurokido, and musicology sessions, as well as several operations since her birth… Since 2003, she has been welcomed at a Medical-Educational Institute (IME).
Among the athletes participating in the Caravan of Hope are some regulars from the sports community on the Cรดte d’Azur: Daniel Le Deunff (former marathon runner and coach of renowned athletes such as Ahmed Salah), Gaรซlle Le Deunff (former French junior vice-champion of the 1500m), Magali Reymonenq (French Champion of the 100 kms and European Vice-Champion over 100 kms), and Didier Wagner (physiotherapist of OGC Nice handball team).
All under the sponsorship of a family friend, France 2 sports journalist Patrick Montel.
