In Saint-Chef, Isère, OGC Nice won the 2025 French Sport-Boules Championship in doubles. A victory built on a flawless run. The Nice club thus retains its title obtained last year.
OGC Nice is once again the French champion! In the town of Saint-Chef, the French Sport-Boules Championship in the men’s first division was held, in the double event. OGC Nice triumphed there at the end of a weekend controlled from start to finish. The team was composed of Frédéric Ascensi, Jérémy Micoud, and captain Didier Abrate.
The Nicene team won all eight of their matches. First in their group with two victories, they then eliminated both teams from Côte-Saint-André in the round of 16 and quarter-finals (13-3 then 13-2). In the semi-final, they prevailed against Plaine de l’Ain, a team recently crowned in the Sport-Boules M1 League. It was a tight encounter, won 8-6.
The final pitted them against the Lyon team composed of Patrick Alcaraz and Xavier Majorel. The team from the Côte d’Azur quickly took the lead. Ten minutes from the end, they were leading 9-3. The end of the game was more challenging. “I somewhat faltered at the end. There are no excuses to be made; my throws were poorly executed,” admitted Jérémy Micoud. Lyon came back to 9-5, then 9-6, but failed to overturn the match.
This title further embellishes his record: “it’s a great satisfaction because this title was the only one I didn’t have on my record yet,” he confided after the match.
For Frédéric Ascensi, this title holds particular significance. It is his first national title in doubles, after losing a final in 2015. He returns this season after a knee injury. “It’s a good comeback after my injury. We have great chemistry with Jérémy, which contributed to our success at Saint-Chef,” he explained. The pointer also praises the Nice team, which shone throughout the season.
Didier Abrate, the captain, emphasizes the importance of the group. “It’s the joy of playing with six fantastic guys. We had a very successful season in the Sport-Boules M1 League […] This national title in doubles is above all the victory of this group,” he declares. The team aimed for a podium place in the League and a national title. Both are now achieved.
The season is not yet over for the Nice team. They will soon play in the French championships in quadrette and singles. The group remains motivated to finish the season on an equally positive note.
