The 5th edition of the Victoires du Sport was held Thursday evening at the Acropolis. The city once again spared no expense to congratulate the elite athletes of Nice. The ceremony was hosted by one of the best sports commentators at the moment, Christophe Josse.
Before the festivities began, a DJ played the latest hits and some classic songs including those by Queen and Madonna. Players from professional clubs were present for the occasion. Nice-Volley, Nice-Hockey, Cavigal Handball, Basketball, as well as athletes from water polo, all were there. Christophe Josse, the master of ceremonies, commentator, and sports commentator at BeIn Sport, admitted that โthere are great champions in Nice.โ
He ceded the stage to the Troupe des Farfadais. A striking performance 10 meters high featuring splits and acrobatics under gentle and then more rhythmic music. The President of the General Council of Alpes-Maritimes emphasized the importance of โsupporting this excellent sports policy, a partnership with the city for facilities.โ And who better to represent the Mayorโs office than Christian Estrosi. But before the Deputy-Mayor took the microphone, a documentary on the training of Niceโs swimmers was shown on the venue’s numerous large screens.
The Deputy-Mayor began his speech by commending the achievements. He highlighted the 83% increase in the sports budget: โMany did not take our policy seriously when it is through sports that young people succeed.โ The City’s policy includes all neighborhoods. In 2013, the City undertook several projects, such as the renovation of the Charles Ehrmann fields and the completion of the Allianz Riviera.
Iron Man, the Marathon, Nice is also a sailing city with the CNN (Centre Nautique de Nice). Christian Estrosi announced a “surprise” which was no longer much of one. Unannounced for the event, Yannick Agnel and Camille Muffat attended. The spectators warmly applauded the two swimming stars. Three city leaders were also awarded for their commitment: Diego Noto (Cavigal), Ange Ferraci (OGCN Association), and Francis Belmonte (Joyeux Pรฉtanquiers).
A karate show by Sonia Fuzia and a film about Clรฉment Lefert preceded Christian Estrosiโs announcement of a second surprise with a career trophy for Valรฉrie Nicolas and her four-year commitment to OGCN Handball. It was time to place the 350 medalists on the podium. Almost all sports were represented in this beautiful family photo. Christophe Josse also began announcing the nominees for the three categories: women, men, and disabled sports.
The public vote counted for 50%. The other half was decided by a panel of journalists (1). For the women, it was Charlotte Bonnet who took the top honor. Another swimmer impressed both voters and journalists, notably Clรฉment Lefert. On the disabled sports side, it was Benjamin Landier who claimed the top spot on the podium.
