As part of its policy for integrating people with disabilities, the city of Nice is organizing five days of sporting and recreational events dedicated to people with disabilities from Monday, June 2 to Friday, June 6.

This festive and convivial event, sponsored by Khaled Lakhal, the winner of the 2013 Euro pétanque, world champion in 1997, four-time world vice-champion, and Maxime Montaggioni, bronze medalist at the world para-taekwondo championship, allows individuals with intellectual, physical, or sensory disabilities to be empowered through adapted sports practices and thus experience the same sensations as able-bodied participants.

The activities are tailored to the disabilities and will allow each of the expected participants to discover different categories of activities.

The proposed sports activities include: pétanque, blowpipe shooting, boccia, rhythmic gymnastics, swimming in an outdoor pool, climbing, tennis/wheelchair tennis, sea trips, spelunking, soccer and basketball tournaments, team sports workshops, track and field (long jump, sprint), mountain biking, tandem, tricycle, push-bike, running, wheelchair racing, running with a guide (visual impairment and reduced mobility persons), wheelchair racing with a guide.

Four new activities are offered this year: skittles games, gymnastics, swimming and water games, trampoline, Lyonnaise boules.

2,000 people are expected, disabled children and adults, from 53 specialized establishments or associations in the department.

On the days of June 5 and 6, at Charles Ehrmann Sports Park, 197 students from 9 classes from three elementary schools will participate: Bois de Boulogne mixed 1, La Digue des Français mixed 1, Les Moulins. Prior to this event, several disability awareness sessions were conducted with these classes at the schools, featuring contributions from the French Association of Paralyzed Persons, the Trisomy 21 Association, the Autism Resource Center, Mr. Barattero, Para-Snowboard Champion, and the Handicaps Mission.
