Sporting success but above all popular success of the 25th half-marathon

A record of 11,600 participants (Editor’s note: 10,200 last year) took part over the two consecutive days in one of the 5 events of the Nice International Half Marathon.

With 8,000 participants, the Half Marathon, run yesterday morning on the Promenade des Anglais, is above all a sporting and popular success. Although at 9:30 am at the start, the sun was shy, later the sky cleared up, and the runners were able to enjoy the good weather.

In terms of sports, no surprises: Kennedy Kipyeko for men and Muliye Dekebo for women won the event.

Kenyan Kennedy Kipyego finished in 1 hour, 1 second, and 46 tenths. He led his compatriot Richard Sigli (1h01’58″) and Ethiopian Kebede Wami (1h02’04″). The first regional was Aix-en-Provence’s Martin Nilsson (1h10’28″).

In the women’s category, Ethiopian Muliye Dekebo stopped the clock at 1h11’10″. The first regional was Hélène Billon-Robart from the Hyères running club (1h22’21″).

The day before, Promenade du Paillon set a new record in the 3 Haribo events: Haribo Kid’s Run, Haribo Family Run, and La Niçoise Haribo.

4,000 participants gathered for this great festive and family moment. From 7:30 pm, 500 children set off in two starting waves (timed 12/16 years wave followed by the non-timed 10/11 years wave) from the Promenade du Paillon on the Haribo Kid’s Run.

5 minutes later, it was the turn of the 1,700 participants of the Haribo Family Run to run 2 km. At 8:30 pm, as night fell, the 1,800 participants of La Niçoise Haribo concluded these festivities in style.

The two Haribo Family Run and La Niçoise Haribo events managed to donate a check for €4,075 to Gérard Van Den BULCKE, Director of the Alpes-Maritimes Cancer League.

In the 10 km event, Bruce BAUTISTA, registered with SCO STE MARGUERITE MARSEILLE, claimed first place in 30’13’’. In the women’s category, podium regular Bénédicte ROBIN (registered with AS SAINT JUNIEN) took the top spot in 35’52’’.
