A month after its opening, the National Museum of Sport welcomed the captain of the French team and former Nice player, Hugo Lloris, this Wednesday. The goalkeeper of the French team took advantage of his few days of vacation on the French Riviera to donate two jerseys to the museum.

lloris-4.jpg Since signing with Tottenham in 2012, in the suburbs of London, Hugo Lloris had not officially set foot in Nice. In just a few weeks, he returned twice for delightful occasions. The first was as the goalkeeper and captain of the French team, on June 1st for the friendly match France-Paraguay. The second was this Wednesday for the donation of two of his jerseys to the French National Museum of Sport, adjacent to the Allianz Riviera, inaugurated almost a month ago.

“The request came a little before the World Cup. It’s a real privilege to be among such great names in these showcases,” said Hugo Lloris. For the occasion, the Nice native donated to the National Museum of Sport his jersey worn during the first match of the 2014 World Cup against Honduras.

He also contributed to the Café des Aiglons by donating the jersey from his first professional match with OGC Nice, on October 26, 2005, a League Cup match against Châteauroux.

Welcomed by the mayor of Nice, Christian Estrosi, with a “Welcome home!”, the French team goalkeeper had the honor of touring the National Museum of Sport. The two guides for the occasion were Marie Grasse, the Museum’s Director, and Annie Lhéritier, Chair of the Board of Directors. The latter did not hesitate to ask for the captain of the French team’s gloves: “Perhaps next time, some gloves. They are important and significant items for such a museum.”

Christian Estrosi did not hide his emotion at seeing a native of the city being included in the National Museum of Sport: “It was unthinkable not to see your jersey here. We are touched and proud to hang one of your jerseys in this prestigious place.”
