Last Monday, MP Cรฉdric Roussel, President of the Study Group on the Economy of Sport, jointly addressed, along with about twenty majority MPs, the Minister of National Education and the Minister of Sports to take advantage of the end of the lockdown to integrate sport as one of the tools for a gradual resumption of classes in schools, colleges, and high schools.
The announcements made by Minister Jean-Michel Blanquer support this option by promoting school sports as part of the gradual resumption of classes after May 11.
“The end of the lockdown is an unprecedented opportunity to launch this experiment on sport practice in schools. I welcome this proposal from the Minister of National Education. I am pleased that the approach we suggested with my fellow MPs has been acknowledged. The implementation of 2S2C activities โ sport, health, culture, civic duty โ will facilitate the return to school and strengthen the role of sport in education. Health through sport is essential from a young age. We can draw inspiration from the German model in this area.”
Cรฉdric Roussel thus intends to take advantage of this gradual end of lockdown to place the topic of Health through Sport at the heart of educational priorities.
“This full-scale test is an opportunity to rely on local sports associations in consultation with all stakeholders in the educational community and local authorities. Strengthening the role of sport in schools means educating for better hygiene, it’s good for health, and itโs beneficial for civic sense! Three key points at the heart of the lessons learned from the COVID-19 crisis.”
