While the FFR had already announced the suspension of amateur competitions from Fédérale 2 until early January, four divisions still held out hope of continuing to play. For two of them, this will certainly not be the case: Fédérale 1 and Nationale are expected to be suspended until January 10.
For the Nationale division, which includes the fourteen elite amateur clubs, exemptions might have been possible. However, the clubs, consulted by the FFR this Monday about their desire to continue (or not), clearly expressed themselves against resuming competitions (10 votes out of 14) citing a context that has become difficult to maintain (loss of revenue and difficulties in using training and match facilities, among other reasons).
An extraordinary federal meeting is scheduled to take place this Tuesday morning at the CNR in Marcoussis. In all likelihood, it will approve the wish expressed by the clubs, and Nationale, which has been dormant since last week, should therefore remain so until January 10.
As a reminder, Stade Niçois is currently leading the ranking, tied with the rugby club of Suresnes Hauts de Seine and US Bressane, each with 17 points. It’s a hard blow for the club but a logical decision considering that several players have tested positive for COVID-19.
