Happy holidays to the luckiest among you and an excellent week to everyone else.

Yesterday, our Promenade des Anglais offered passersby one of its pictures it paints so well with its “blue and gold” brushes. In front of it, many people were waiting in front of the Best Western Hotel. People were chatting, laughing, and singing under the azure blue sky lit by the king of the sun. No, it’s definitely not going to rain today!

The line was mostly composed of people attracted by the singing. Dressed in their finery, they all came to try their luck in hopes of being spotted to participate in the sixth season of Star Academy.

Accompanied by a friend or a family member, these individuals from 17 to 70 years old experienced an unforgettable day yesterday. They were all motivated but mostly did not want to believe too much to avoid disappointment. “I’m taking my chance, I have nothing to lose,” said Natalia, a charming 17-and-a-half-year-old Chilean with golden curls, who is no stranger to auditions. Since she was very young, she has been singing with her family. Singing lessons? Her aunt gives them to her, she is her “inspiration,” she says. When asked if she was stressed, she replied that she loves this feeling, but it disappears as soon as she sings. Since 10:30 AM, she was in the ranks of the audition with a Shakira song and an Alanis Morissette song in her repertoire. At 3 PM, she will be rejected but she is not disappointed because during her short audition, she gave her best. “I’m young, I have time, I will work. One day it will be my turn.”

It may be the turn of Laetitia, a young woman from Nice, 19 years old with blue eyes, who we met in the corridors of the fifth floor of the Westminster. She is in her second year of law and wants to become a lawyer, but her big dream: to perform on stage to make her departed father proud. She has been immersed in music since she was little: 6 years of piano lessons, 4 years of singing lessons, 10 years of theater classes, and 12 years of dance. Yes, Laetitia has a good resume, but she still wants to learn, though “learning” comes at a cost and affording training worthy of that of the Star Academy is truly a dream. Ambitious, she tries her luck again this year by performing Gospel and a song by Patricia Kass in front of Daniel, the singing teacher. She knows she needs to work on her voice, but this girl has something more than the others, a different personality, an expressive look. She is allowed to go up to the sixth floor where she will be quickly judged on an improvised choreography. Finally, she has convinced the casting director, and she secures the coveted pink bracelet that will allow her to come back tomorrow for a second selection. We wish her luck, perhaps we will discover her in the next season? To be continued.

19 years old, 17 years old, but no, there were not only post-teens at this casting! Amidst this youth, Germaine flourished, known as Pamela in her village of Saint Médard de Guizières. She came to Nice especially to participate in the casting of Star Academy. At the age of 69, she takes life on the bright side. Being locked up in this castle, filmed all day long, does not bother her and she even revealed that it would please her children, her grandchildren, and the mayor of her village. “Miss disaster,” as she defines herself, is optimistic. “Certainly, there are some who come with their guitar in hand, but in my hands, I have my beautiful shoes, which I did not wear because afterward, my feet hurt if I keep them on too long. You know, I come from a modest background and it would be really good if I could participate in this show,” she declared to us. The auditions went on and we lost track of Germaine. Perhaps the “Je ne regrette rien” by Piaf and “La Marie vison” brought her luck! We are calling out!

We are also calling out to Dimitri, a young man from Nice, who also wants his share of the dream. His mother revealed to us that she is tired of hearing him sing at all hours of the day: “You can’t follow a movie or the evening news peacefully. Dimitri sings all the time. It’s too much. So I’m sending an SOS to the producers of TF1: take him, it will give us a break!” She laughs, of course. His style? The Beatles, Toto, Sting, The Police, Ben Harper… For the casting, he prepared for three days. Yesterday, he presented to his jury Greg David and Aldebert. Maybe his “Carpe diem” has opened the doors to the Château? That’s all the good we can wish him.

Four contestants? No, this casting organized by TF1 recorded a large number of registrations. All day Friday, the four singing teachers had to “cast” 2,300 people to select only the best. A real marathon! A marathon that is just beginning since nine other castings are scheduled (see below)! Good luck to all the “casters”!

This Friday, March 10, had a part of the dream for some and will be the beginning of a great adventure for others. Good continuation to each of you! The important thing is to “stay yourself and pursue your passions to the end.”
