The work on the final developments of the Dante-Buffa-Grimaldi-Liberté axis began on Wednesday.
Christian Estrosi (Mayor of Nice, President of the Nice Côte d’Azur Metropolis, Deputy President of the Provence-Alpes-Côte-d’Azur Region), Anne Ramos (Deputy Mayor of Nice in charge of Works, Property and Urban Planning, Vice-President of the Nice Côte d’Azur Metropolis), Pierre-Paul Léonelli (Deputy Mayor of Nice in charge of Cleanliness, Collection and Parks and Gardens, Vice-President of the Nice Côte d’Azur Metropolis), and Gaël Nofri (Deputy Mayor of Nice in charge of Traffic and Parking, and Urban Logistics, Metropolitan Councillor) were at Place Grimaldi on Wednesday morning. They launched the work which is expected to be completed by 2023.
This work will widen the road and sidewalks for pedestrians, eliminate most traffic lights, create secure two-way bike lanes, renew the networks, and plant 270 climate-suited plants that are low in water consumption, sequester carbon, and reduce heat islands.
The Bottero-Joffre-Pastorelli-Devoluy axis was also part of a greening plan. It was completed in November 2019. This time, the second axis includes Dante Street, Liberté Street, Buffa Street, and Place Grimaldi.
Nice defines itself as a “green city,” and three axes are involved in these “green corridors.” The third will transform Gioffredo Street by the end of 2023.
