This Tuesday, July 1st, public transportation on the Lignes dโAzur network is officially free for children under eleven. The free parking time in the city center has also been increased. Two appreciated measures for purchasing power.
While there were preferential rates before, children under eleven now benefit from free public transportation on the Lignes dโAzur network. This measure came into effect this Tuesday, July 1st. It is also accompanied by the modification of the free parking time on the street. Two measures advocated by Christian Estrosi in favor of the residents’ purchasing power.
Free for children under eleven
Fifty euros for the School Pass (kindergarten, primary, or boarding school students) with a round trip per day, only on school days. Ninety euros for the Schoolbus Extension with unlimited travel on the Lignes dโAzur network. Or one hundred and eighty euros for the under-26 pass. Children under eleven could benefit from preferential rates. They now no longer need a subscription. They will benefit from the free public transportation on the Lignes dโAzur network.
A measure of free access that already affected part of the population: blind civilians, veterans, non-taxable seniors, or non-taxable disabled people, among others. โThis measure now extends to all metropolitan children under eleven on the Lignes dโAzur and Schoolbus networks, with a clear objective: to support families and encourage the use of public transportation from an early age,โ stated Christian Estrosi, applauding this measure in favor of the purchasing power of the people of Nice.
Thirty additional minutes of free parking
Another commitment made by the mayor of Nice is taking effect this July 1st: the free parking on the street for one hour, instead of thirty minutes. This concerns all fourteen thousand parking spaces in the city. While the time changes, the principle remains the same: one must obtain a free ticket from the parking meter or via the PayByPhone mobile application.
โWe once again reaffirm our commitment to mobility accessible to all and a territory increasingly supportive,โ stated Christian Estrosi.
Pleasant surprise regarding transportation
This morning, on the bustling Jean Mรฉdecin Avenue, not many were aware of these new developments. โOh, I had no idea,โ says Sophie, accompanied by her children, who are taking the tram at Libรฉration station and are ten years old. โThis is the good news of the morning,โ she laughs. Further away, near Coulรฉe Verte, the observation is the same. โI had vaguely heard about this project, but I hadnโt paid much attention to it. Surely no one will complain,โ explains Samantha, a mother of an eight-year-old girl.
More than a surprise, itโs excellent news for Antoine, a father of two boys, one of whom is seven years old. โThis is great because I still have a son who is affected by this new rule. This will relieve us from a subscription, which I was about to renew, by the way,โ he explains.
Free access that will encourage families and young children to use public transportation as often as possible. โIf I have to take my daughter to school, the option of public transport becomes more than interesting. We used to take the tram often but not enough to get her an annual subscription. Sometimes it was also by car with my husband. If itโs free for her from today, itโs a real advantage, and we will stop buying tickets from time to time. Itโs good news for the next school year,โ notes Julie, mother of a nine-year-old daughter. First day and the free service is already making an impact.
