After Michel Martinez’s flamboyant victory on Saturday in the all-series table, the Nice Côte d’Azur National Open Table Tennis concluded in a grand finale on Sunday evening with the fierce left-handed stroke and youthful smile of Stéphane Ouaiche (No. 71), winner of the unclassified table to No. 50 nationally.
The young Frenchman, licensed to Villeneuve-sur-Lot, a long-time friendly club of Nice CPC, organizer of this Open, perfectly upheld his standing by dominating the Mexican Marcos Madrid (No. 72, Nice CPC) and then the Chinese Wang Chen (No. 76, Abbeville) to claim this highly competitive table.
Noteworthy is the most surprising and equally splendid success of Sami Kherouf (No. 784, Levallois Sport) in the unclassified table to No. 200. The Algerian, who defeated his teammate Yanis Douifi (No. 357, Levallois Sport) in the final, offered the Nice audience some of the most beautiful points and spectacular shots of the competition, held largely on the nine new tables at the Raoul-Dufy hall, an investment made possible thanks to the support of numerous public and private partners.
The Nice CPC draws a very positive balance from this great weekend of sport and celebration, which was a grand first at this level of organization (10,000 €, 2 halls, 23 tables) for its young management team and many volunteers.
This successful attempt encourages the Côte d’Azur’s No. 1 club and its 833 members to continue their efforts to approach the next season with confidence.
