As part of an exhibition, the publishing house Baie des Anges wanted to highlight numerous works, including several crime novels set in the Alpes-Maritimes.
The “Riviera School” exhibition is currently taking place in Nice. It is organized by Gaspard’s Art Grocery, with the support of the Artist’s Chaplaincy. In this context, many authors are showcased. For two days, the Dominican Gallery hosted the publishing house Baie des Anges.
Dozens of books were thus showcased to the visitors. “This allows people, before the lockdown or before the holidays, to complete their collection of Nice-based crime novels or mountain novels,” explains Michel Bounous, the editorial manager of Baie des Anges. Most of the books present in the Dominican Gallery were Nice-based crime novels.
The plots take place in the region, or even within the city of Nice in some cases. These books enjoy significant success. They are often highly appreciated by readers. In fact, the latter can easily relate to the story thanks to locations familiar from their personal experience.
The reading sector also suffers from the lockdown
“Stock up on books before the lockdown,” was the title of this event organized by the publishing house Baie des Anges. Michel Bounous smiles as he mentions this title: “We had been preparing this for 8-10 days. Everyone was talking about a new lockdown, but it ultimately didn’t happen. We kept this idea anyway.”
Like all cultural sectors, books are also impacted. Although sales are not declining, bookstores are struggling greatly to survive. “What we miss is the contact with the public, so it’s important to keep some contact with our audience,” notes Michel Bounous. “But what worries me is the closure of bookstores. Three have closed in Nice in 2020.”
Despite the difficulties, the book sector fights on. The publishing house Baie des Anges continues to provide its readers with numerous Nice-based crime novels or mountain novels set in the local landscape. Reading is entertainment for everyone.
