The Department announced that it will issue an order to ban the circulation of trucks over 19 tons in the Roya Valley, in solidarity with the mayors who are concerned about the increasing traffic on the road connecting France to Italy via the Tende tunnel.
This decision will be poorly received at the Prefecture, which had already opposed a previous order by the mayors of the valley’s municipalities: at stake is the freedom of movement.
The Tribunal had validated this decision which, however, remains subject to appeal.
Charles-Ange Ginésy, President of the Departmental Council, explains this decision which will please many, including the two elected communist departmental councilors of this canton, Francis Tujague, mayor of Contes, and Valérie Tommasini who have long requested it,
for a long time:
“The circulation of these heavy trucks is a real nuisance to the quality of life of residents. Our department has a strong tourism and environmental vocation. It is inconceivable that this appeal should be hindered by dangerous and excessive truck traffic in the Roya Valley.”
