At the call of the LGBT* Center, a gathering will take place this evening at 6:30 PM, at Place Garibaldi.
“An LGBTphobic attack occurs every three days in France today,” declares Erwann LE HÔ, President of the LGBT Center, who continues, “Homophobia is not an opinion. Homophobia destroys lives and constitutes a crime. The law is on our side, and we are doing everything in our power to ensure it is applied firmly and that every act is punished. We will prosecute the authors of homophobic remarks and actions and support any action in this direction.”
This summer and this return to school period have seen a multiplication of remarks and violence against lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people, legitimized by public statements from opportunistic personalities and politicians.
The aim of the demonstration is to sound the alarm and to call on the Government to take a firm stand against the rising violence targeting minorities.
In the media, stigmatizing speech continues to gain traction. Everyday homophobia and LGBTphobic discrimination increasingly intersect with an unfettered expression of xenophobic, racist, anti-Semitic, or anti-Muslim hate.
“We are gathering on Wednesday to defend the victims, proclaim our commitment to human rights, and call for everyone’s responsibility in the face of rising hatred!” is the rallying call of Erwann Le Hô.
